Children’s Dentistry

When it comes to choosing the best pediatric dentist for your child, that dentist’s experience is essential.

Dr. Micah Bickel and Dr Bryant Trinh have extensive experience treating children of all ages. Dr. Bickel was the lead pediatric dental surgeon for the Tulalip Tribes Dental Clinic from 2010 to 2015 and is a founding representative for the Baby Teeth Matter collaborative for research, development, and improvement of oral health for Washington Dental Services Foundation.

Dr. Bickel and Dr. Bryant both have a genuine love for children and pediatric dentistry. Not every dentist likes or even wants to work with children, and their attitude can come across negatively and make treatment uncomfortable for the dentist, the pediatric patient, and the parents. Dr. Bickel and Dr. Bryant have chosen to focus much of their practice on helping young children develop healthy and beautiful teeth. their focus on prevention will help keep your children’s smiles in mint condition as your children continue to grow.

What Can I Expect During My Child’s First Dental Appointment?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child has their first dental appointment by their first birthday. An early dental visit can create the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles and allow you to ask questions about your child’s development and address any concerning habits such as thumb sucking.

At your little one’s first visit with our pediatric dentist in Seattle, WA, we will make the experience enjoyable! We will help familiarize them with the sights and sounds of the dental office as well as perform an exam. We will also spend time discussing home care and how you can best support your child’s oral health and wellness. You are your child’s number-one defense against poor oral hygiene.

Your child’s first dental appointment is intended to be short and painless. You and your child should not feel stressed during this appointment. The goal is to help slowly acclimate your child to visiting the dentist and to give them a chance to explore the dental chair and office area. Over time, we will work with your child to develop increased confidence and feelings of relaxation when they visit our Seattle, WA pediatric dentist’s office.

Pediatric Dentistry Procedures

As your child develops, Dr. Bickel and Dr. Bryant will incorporate diagnostic x-rays and other preventive treatment routines such as fluoride treatments and sealants. More information about these dental treatments can be found below:

Digital X-Rays – Dental x-rays are still one of the best ways to detect decay in its early stages. By focusing on early diagnosis, we help your little one stay healthy. Your child will periodically have dental x-rays taken to assess the growth of any potential decay and to help us get a more in-depth understanding of the layout of your child’s mouth. Images such as panoramic x-rays are important tools for our Doctors when deciding on a treatment plan for pediatric patients.

Fluoride Treatments – Fluoride treatments are used as needed and can be beneficial for some patients, especially if those patients’ teeth are prone to decay. Recent studies have shown that fluoride treatments during regular dental visits decrease the likelihood of your child developing cavities by 70 percent.

Protective Dental Sealants – Dental sealants create a barrier between decay-causing bacteria and your child’s teeth. Dental sealants are made of BPA-free resin, and we apply them as needed in the deep grooves of the chewing surfaces of your child’s teeth, where decay is most likely to occur.

Dr. Bickel and Dr. Bryant, your pediatric dentists, have a gift for working with kids. They speak to them in a way that they understand and engage their sense of curiosity. By treating our youngest patients with compassion and respect, we find that in return, kids love coming to our office and are typically not afraid of dental treatment!

Children’s Dental Cleanings

We customize our dental cleanings to meet each patient’s needs. We will clean and polish your child’s teeth and provide education about proper home care techniques. By making kids active participants in their oral health, we can engage and motivate your little one to play a role in taking care of their smile.

Proper brushing, flossing, and dietary suggestions teach your little one about the importance of their teeth. We believe in teaching strong oral hygiene principles that you reinforce at home. Our pediatric dental cleanings are designed to complement the work you are already doing within your own home to help your children thrive. A child who is invested in their own smile will be more diligent when it comes to brushing, flossing, using mouthwash, eating a healthy diet, and visiting the dentist regularly.

Do You Believe In Restorative Dentistry For Kids?

Protecting your child’s baby teeth is crucial in preparing their mouth to receive their permanent teeth later on. Most kids will need a filling at some point during their lives, likely while they still have some or all of their baby teeth.

If your child has been experiencing new sensitivity or tooth pain, do not delay in making an appointment. Calling immediately when your child’s symptoms first begin gives us the best chance of preserving that tooth.

At Phinney Ridge Dental, we work at your child’s pace and make their comfort a priority. Our team will use dental exams and periodic dental x-rays to check for possible decay or problem areas before they become severe. By delivering pain-free dental treatment, we can make each appointment a positive experience even when restorative treatment is necessary.
